74 Year Old Miss India 1961 Enters Politics

The former Miss India and famous Bollywood actress Vijaya Manghara, has announced that she would be a candidate for the Communist Party of India (the Marxist branch) for the next federal parliamentary elections.

“I have come to the conclusion that our country needs some great changes” she tells journalists. “I have decided to stop hoping that others would do it, and decided it’s time for me to do something to about the cost of food, fuel, and feminine hygiene products”.
The 74 years old bengali women has lived an very public life during the 60′s and 70′s, staring in more than 200 movies and winning dozens of prizes over the length of her career, but she had until now remained rather discreet concerning her political opinions.
According to analysts, Miss Manghara’s candidacy could bring some momentum to the communists which are actually the main formation of the Left Front alliance, possibly even making them contenders for power. The former superstar brings a lot of media attention, money and charisma to a political organization which has already deeply embedded roots amongst the rural population and the poorest urban areas.
