LUTH DOCTOR ABDUCTED, KILLED IN OGUN HOMETOWN.
Suspected hoodlums on Sunday abducted and killed a doctor with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Lagos, Thomas Adekoya-Cole, in the Itele area of Ijebu, Ogun State.
It was gathered that 60-year-old Adekoya-Cole, a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with LUTH, was murdered while in his hometown to attend a public function.
It was learnt that the matter was reported at the police Area Command, Ijebu, and the Igbeba Police Division.Our correspondent gathered that Adekoya-Cole was cut with matchets after some hoodlums attacked him around 7.30am on Sunday.

A man has slit the throat of his wife and mother of five in Oshodi,Lagos. The suspect, Sogei Jafairu, who hails from Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo state, was suspected to have committed the act for ritual purpose.
He was said to have returned home Thursday evening, after spending one week outside. His unsuspecting wife, Roselyn , who was a trader at Ijora market, prepared food for members of the family . But the food was alleged to have been poisoned by her husband, who also ate with her.
At about 1am, Jafaru was said to have been seen pacing around his one room and parlour apartment. He was said to have also been sighted licking some black substance suspected to be concoction to neutralise the poisoned food he ate with his wife.

Petrol prices rocket as drivers head off on holiday with the average cost leaping to £110 just in time for summer
Petrol prices have risen to their highest level in eight months, just as drivers head off for Bank Holiday and half-term breaks.
Many supermarkets were selling unleaded at just over £1 a litre as recently as March, but the price has leapt to £1.10 and is set rise further through the summer.
It is the first time the average price has been this high since September.
Prices are lower across Europe, with figures collated for the Post Office showing they range from 80p a litre for unleaded in Andorra to £1.05 in France.

The rescued 14-year-old girl, Ese Oruru, was on Thursday morning delivered of a baby girl.
Ese was allegedly abducted in Bayelsa State in August 2015 and taken to Kano State where she was converted to Islam and married out without the consent of her parents.
She was said to have gone into labour on Thursday morning and taken to the Bayelsa State Government House Clinic where she was delivered of a baby girl.Since her return to Yenagoa, she has been living at the Police Officers’ Mess in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

Economy: Nigeria in volatile situation, says Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday said the sharp drop in the price of oil globally had put Nigeria in a volatile situation.
He said the country made what he called a terrible mistake by relying solely on oil.
He reaffirmed that his administration was fully committed and determined to do all within its power to achieve the rapid diversification of Nigeria’s economy in the shortest possible time.According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President spoke while receiving the outgoing Iranian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Saeed Koozechi, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Herdsmen recorded video of Enugu massacre – Police
The Nigeria Police Force says it has arrested five suspects for their role in the Enugu attack by suspected herdsmen which led to the death of about 20 persons in the Ukpabi Nimbo area of the state on April 25, 2016.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole, said this in a statement on Wednesday.
She said, “The Nigeria Police Force in its renewed determination to rid the society of crimes and all forms of criminality, has arrested five of the suspects involved in the midnight raid on Nimbo community in the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State on April 25, 2016 as operatives of the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team based on credible technical intelligence swooped on them.Kolawole revealed that the police also recovered a phone from the herdsmen which had a video recording of the massacre.

Woman, nurse arrested while aborting 12-year-old’s pregnancy
Source: A 12-year-old girl, identified only as Favour, has been rescued by the police in the Mafoluku, Oshodi area of Lagos State, where her aunt and the husband allegedly took her to get rid of a pregnancy.
It was learnt that Favour had been allegedly raped several times by her aunt’s husband, identified as Johnbull Dike, before she conceived.
It was gathered that Dike’s wife and the nurse who was caught during the abortion had been arrested by the Akinpelu Police Division.It was learnt that while Favour was put in police’s care, a manhunt was launched for Johnbull, a tricycle rider, who fled the area after the police rescued the girl.

A two-year-old boy, Musa Murtala, is currently battling to live at the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Kano.
The victim, who had been admitted since Friday, was allegedly tortured by his grandmother, Hafsatu, and stepmother, Zainab, at their home in Gulu town in the Rimin Gado Local Government Area of the state.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Nura Idris, reported on Tuesday that it would take some weeks for the victim to recover, adding that he had deep cuts in different parts of his body.Our correspondent gathered that the two suspects allegedly broke the legs and arms of Musa, cut his tongue, removed his eye and private parts.

Protesters block Lagos road as policewoman kills driver
Motorists and youths blocked the Igando end of the Lagos State University-Iyana Iba Road on Monday to protest against the alleged killing of a commercial driver, identified as Muyiwa Ijaduola, by a female police corporal attached to the Igando Police Division.
The protesters, who burnt tyres and planks at about 11am, blocked the road with three buses, demanding that the police should arrest the female corporal, identified only as Taiwo, and release Ijaduola’s corpse to his family members.
Our correspondent gathered that 46-year-old Ijaduola was stopped by Taiwo. It was learnt that on Sunday around 2.30pm, Taiwo and another female corporal were in front of a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation filling station in the Igando area, checking vehicles.

The Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has banned grazing and rearing of cattle in the state, saying those interested in cattle farming should get their own private cattle ranches.
The governor announced this when he visited Oke Ako in Ikole Local Government Area of the state where some residents of the town were attacked on Friday night by criminals suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.
Fayose was accompanied by the state Commissioner of Police, Etop James; the Director of Department of State Services; and the state Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Don Ikemefuna.Two persons died from the attack while three others are receiving treatment in separate private hospitals in Ikole Ekiti and Ado Ekiti.

People who say they don’t identify with any religion now outnumber Christians as the country becomes less religious, a study has found.
Almost half the population of England and Wales said they had no religion – referred to as ‘nones’ – in 2014 study, almost double the figure of 25% recorded in the census just three years earlier.
People defining themselves as Christian, including Anglicans, Catholics and other denominations, made up 43.8% of the population – lower than the 48.8% of nones.

Petrol price will crash in one month — Marketers
Oil marketers have given an indication that the pump price of petrol will crash in the next one month.
Already, some filling stations belonging to independent marketers in major cities such as Abuja and Lagos are beginning to sell petrol below the N145 given last week by the Federal Government as the benchmark price per litre.
The Federal Government had penultimate Wednesday announced a new price regime of N145 as the maximum amount for a litre of petrol. This has prompted the Nigeria Labour Congress to declare a nationwide strike, demanding the return to the old prices of N86 and N86.50 per litre for fuel outlets controlled by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and major/independent marketers, respectively.
Buhari cancels two-day state visit to Lagos

WHO confirms Zika virus spread in Africa
The Regional Director for Africa, World Health Organisation, Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, has confirmed the spread of the Zika virus on the continent.
The WHO in a statement on Sunday said this was the first time, scientists could confirm the circulation of the Asian strain of the virus in Cape Verde, in the north west coast of Africa.
There have been around 1,300 confirmed cases of microcephaly – babies born with small brains – in Brazil, with thousands more under investigation.Zika virus disease is caused by a virus transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. It has been linked to neurological disorders including babies being born with small brains.

Rescued girl, Serah Luka, not on our list —Chibok parents
Chibok parents refuted the Nigerian Army’s report that the second rescued girl, Serah Luka, was among the 219 kidnapped by Boko Haram on April 14, 2014.
A girl, Amina Ali, believed to be among the Chibok schoolgirls, was announced rescued from the hands of the terrorists on Wednesday.
The military statement said, “In addition, they rescued 97 women and children held captives by the Boko Haram terrorists. We are glad to state that among those rescued is a girl believed to be one of the Chibok Government Secondary Schoolgirls that were abducted on April 14, 2014 by the Boko Haram terrorists.The army had again said in a statement on Thursday that its troops killed 35 Boko Haram terrorists and recovered several arms and ammunition in the recovery of Luka.
Housemaid who accused Lebanese boss of rape gives birth
A 17-year-old housemaid, Rhoda, who accused her Lebanese boss, a chef with a prominent Lagos hotel, Hassan Ali Husseini, of raping her while working for him, has put to bed.
The teenager, who is in custody of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, reportedly put to bed in a hospital at the Police College, Ikeja.
It will be recalled that Husseini had denied that the he raped Rhoda, but that the sexual contact they had was consensual.A source at the agency told our correspondent that the baby, a girl, has the features that make it incontrovertible that the child was fathered by Husseini

Fuel hike is consequence of corruption, says Osinbajo
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo says the fuel hike from N86.5 per litre to N145 can be traced to the scarcity of dollars occasioned by the depletion of the foreign reserve.
The Vice-President said this at a book presentation of a book titled, ‘Anatomy of Corruption in Nigeria’ which was authored by legal luminary, Yusuf Ali (SAN), in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said, “If you have no foreign currency, you have to import fuel. All of our refined petrol today is imported. A lot of problems that with the refineries are corruption related issues. If we repair our refineries today, we will still only be able to refine 40 per cent of our petroleum so we still need to importOsinbajo added that it was corruption that made it impossible for Nigeria to build or maintain refineries over the years which has forced the nation to be import-dependent.
Court stops planned NLC strike
The National Industrial Court on Tuesday stopped the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress from embarking on their planned strike over the increase in fuel price by the federal Government.
The labour unions had threatened to commence a nationwide strike on Wednesday.
Justice Adejumo ruled, “The defendants are hereby restrained from carrying out the threat contained in their communique issued on May 14, 2016 pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed on May 16.Justice Babatunde Adejumo gave the restraining order after the Attorney General of the Federation, and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, argued an ex parte application in which the prayer for the order was contained.

Ambode donates 50 new buses to BRT
The Lagos State Government says mass transit buses will cushion any effect that removal of subsidy and subsequent increase petrol price will have on Lagosians.
The state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, therefore, on Monday donated 50 mass transit buses into the operations of the Bus Rapid Transit scheme.
He spoke in the Ikorodu area of the state during the inauguration of the buses.The Managing Director, Primero Transport Limited, Fola Tinubu, said the governor’s gesture would not only cushion the effect of fuel price, it would stabilise transport fares.
Nanny arrested while attempting to sell one-year-old boy
An 18-year-old nanny, Covenant Bassey, who allegedly abducted her employer’s one-year-old son, David Robinson, in the Satellite Town area of Calabar, Cross River State, has been arrested.
Our correspondent gathered that Bassey was arrested at about 7am on Monday in a motor park in the Onne area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, by policemen attached to the Eleme division, who intercepted Bassey while allegedly attempting to sell the baby.
