An 11-year-old Chinese boy is being made to live with his feet in chains because he has a mental illness.ll
Little He Zili is kept on a short length of chain in Gulai village, in the eastern coastal province of Zhejiang, China, because his family reportedly fear his mental illness may lead him to attack somebody.
These shocking pictures show the filthy, semi-naked youngster skulking around an alleyway like a stray dog.
Only the chain around his ankle shows he has an owner, which his family pulls on when it is time for him to come home.
The boy lives with his severely disabled grandfather and "intellectually handicapped" father after his mother died of cancer.
The family members - who refused to be named - claim a bump to the boy's head when he was a baby left him with mental disorders including a tendency to attack people, and say they have no choice but to keep him in chains.
The shocking images of extreme poverty and deprivation are a stark contrast to other parts of the thriving country which is merging as a super power.
