President Buhari to visit Lagos Friday......

The Lagos State Government has increased security measures in the state with the acquisition of three helicopters, among other gadgets, to fight rising insecurity in the state.

A statement on Wednesday by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, stated that the equipment would be formally presented to the Rapid Response Squad on Friday at an occasion to be chaired by President Muhammadu Buahri.

It said, “President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit will witness the rebranding of the RRS as the state’s no-nonsense police response squad against crime and criminality. The President will also join Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in handing over the brand new patrol equipment to the police authorities in the state.

According to the documents, a 2009 government White Paper concluded that Mr. Anwukah was guilty of “administrative racketeering,” which included contriving to admit more students than the capacity of IMSU and charging the students fees for file jackets and processing, the award of contracts without due process, and the use of special assistants to circumvent the bursary in order to furnish the Vice Chancellor’s residence.

Wife quarrels with husband, dumps six-month-old baby on waste

An aggrieved housewife, Annabel Owhoghovo, of Owohelogbo community Isoko axis in Delta State, on Friday, allegedly dumped her six-month-old baby at a dump site after having a quarrel with her husband.

It was reliably gathered that the quarrel degenerated into physical combat, where the couple allegedly traded punches during night fall.

Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, died on Saturday at the age of 62.

Alamieyeseigha, who died around 4pm, was earlier rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital from his residence in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Thursday.

99 Nigerians died, 215 missing in Mecca tragedy – NAHCON

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria has confirmed that 99 Nigerian pilgrims died, 42 injured and 214 others missing in the September 24 stampede in Mina, Saudi Arabia.

The confirmation came as a road traffic expert, Alhaji Babatunde Adewumi, suggested that NAHCON should engage the services of trained and qualified traffic controllers to help in the management of crowd in subsequent Hajj exercise.

The agency’s Commissioner (Planning, Research, Statistic Information and Library Service), Dr. Saleh Okenwa, gave the clarification in an interview with journalists on Thursday in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

He was conducted round the wards where the victims are recuperating by the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr. Jafaru Momoh.

His Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, later issued a statement saying the President wished the survivors of the attack full and speedy recovery.

Adesina added that the President reassured the survivors that the Federal Government would take full responsibility for settling their medical bills.

A Nigerian man has been sentenced to prison for masturbating & ejaculating on female passenger on London Underground train

Peter Fabiyi,32, was on Wednesday, September 30, sentenced to 3 years and nine months in prison by Blackfriars Crown Court after he masturbated and ejaculated over a woman while on a London Underground train. Fabiyi committed the offence on Wednesday, July 2014.

The victim, a woman in her 20s boarded a train towards Mitcham Junction and traveled a few stops before she realized that Fabiyi was standing directly in front of her with his trousers undone as the train left Elephant and Castle station in central London, after which he performed the sex act while they were both alone in the carriage.

Thirty-five-year-old Nelson, who stabbed his father, Sunday Oamen, to death, in Abesan Estate, in the Ipaja area of Lagos State, has said he did it because his father always scolded him.

Oamen, who is currently being detained at the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, found out on Wednesday that he had smoked four wraps of Indian hemp before committing the crime.

He faulted his parents for not giving him enough training, adding that he hated them for always talking down on him.

Our correspondent had reported last week Monday that Nelson, a suspected drug addict, stabbed his 75-year-old father to death on Friday, September 23.

Tragedy in Mecca • 717 die in Hajj stampede

Punch: No fewer than 717 pilgrims were killed on Thursday, while 863 were injured during a stampede which occurred at an Islamic event held in the city of Mina, about two miles from Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

The event was one of the last rituals of theHajj season, an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, which is known as “stoning the devil.”

The Thursday tragedy is the deadliest in the city since 1990 when 1,426 people died in a similar stampede. In 2006, the stampede killed 363 people, Al Jazeerareports.

According to the Civil Defence Authorities in Mina who confirmed 717 deaths in the Thursday incident, the number had been climbing steadily, despite over 4,000 workers deployed along with 220 ambulances to the scene of the disaster.

Crane accident: Families of Nigerian victims who died in Saudi Arabia to get N70m each

Families of the six Nigerian pilgrims who lost their lives in the Friday September 11th crane accident at the Grand Mosque in the Saudi Arabian city of Mecca are to receive N70m each as compensation from the Saudi Custodian of the two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The king had ordered that families of each of the 111 people who lost their lives in the accident be paid compensation of (SR1,000,000) one million Saudi Riyals which is N70 million in Naira equivalent. Six Nigerian pilgrims including one pilgrim from Kaduna and five others from Gombe state died in the unfortunate incident.

NDLEA allows graduate to drown during raid

Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have been accused of drowning a 32-year-old graduate of Law, Dapo Olasore, in the Agboyi, Alapere area of Lagos State.

The incident happened on Sunday after the officials, who came in two vans without number plates, raided the area.

Our correspondent gathered that Olasore, aka Omopo, was about boarding a canoe to a neighbouring community to see a relative, when the officials stormed the community.

They were said to have shot sporadically into the air, sending frightened residents fleeing in different directions.

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria on Saturday said that while three Nigerians were injured in the crane incident in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, no Nigerian was among the dead.

The commission, however, stated that investigations by the Nigerian medical team and the Saudi authorities “are still ongoing on the matter.”

Malpractice: Pensioner, wife take exam for kids in Delta

A 66-year-old retired federal civil servant, Fredrick Omorieve and his wife, Evelyn Omorieve, have been arrested by the police in Asaba, Delta State, for allegedly sitting examinations for two of their children.

The couple were arrested by officers of the Delta State Police Command, who had been working on a tip-off over the Omorieves’ alleged involvement in examination malpractice.

Woman bit off neighbour’s nipple lands in Kirikiri Prison

A woman, Bola Olowolagba, who fought with one of her neighbours and bit off one of her nipples in Akowonjo area of Lagos, has been remanded in Kirikiri Prison.

Bola bit more than she could chew on September 2, 2015, when she and her husband attacked one of their co-tenants at Shasha.

While her husband, Abiodun, allegedly availed himself with his most handy weapon – his bare hands – during the attack, his wife, resorted to the use of her teeth, which she sank into the right breast of 38-year-old Taiwo Adelowo.

By the time the fight was over, Taiwo was missing a nipple and screaming in pain as she bled profusely in the backyard of the ‘face-me-I-face-you’ building in which they live.

When our correspondent visited the victim on Wednesday, it was noticed that the Olowolagbas’ room is just three doors away from that of the Adelowos.

Taiwo’s commercial bus driver husband, Kazeem, alleged that on three different occasions in the past, he had got home to learn that his wife had been assaulted by the Olowolagbas.

“These couple fight my wife over little things and I cannot pack out of my apartment because of them. I always report them to the police but we usually settle the disagreement after that. This last attack was the height of it,” Kazeem said.

Chris Brown wins big in court as he is granted joint custody of daughter Royalty.

Chris Brown has been granted joint custody of one-year-old daughter Royalty.

The 26-year-old appeared in court in Houston on Friday, where the judge granted all of his requests. The court issued a gag order against Royalty's mother Nia Guzman, and also agreed to Brown's figure of $2,500 a month in child support. 

The singer was seeking 50/50 custody, while Guzman was pushing for supervised visits only, TMZ reports. He will be allowed to take his daughter home today.

Guzman was seeking sole custody, and wanted to block Brown from unsupervised visits with the little girl.

32 yr old South African woman arrested in India, drugs found concealed in her stomach

The 32-year-old South African woman named Mosiea Moosa who initially lied that she was 7 months pregnant, was actually carrying packages of the drugs in her stomach and her urogenital tract. She was arrested on August 30 when she landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad, India from Dubai on an Emirates flight,The Times of India reports.
