Mum arrested on suspicion of murdering seven-week-old baby.

Held: Katarzyna Gacek has been questioned by police over her son's death

This is the mum who was yesterday quizzed on suspicion of murdering her seven-week-old baby.
Katarzyna Gacek, 24, was arrested after her son Thomas died of serious head injuries.
She is being questioned alongside her boyfriend – who is not the baby’s father – and their lodger.

Gacek took her son to the Hospital, min the early hours of last Sunday. Doctors found he had severe head injuries and Thomas was transferred to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital where he died on Tuesday. A post-mortem examination confirmed he had died of head injuries.
Gacek and her 35-year-old boyfriend, of Clarksfield, Oldham, were originally arrested on suspicion of assault and were bailed pending further investigations. After Thomas’s death they were re-arrested on suspicion of murder and conspiring to pervert the course of justice. Their lodger, 26, was held over the same allegations.
According to her Facebook page Gacek is originally from Jaslo in south-east Poland. She is thought to have been a warehouse packer before quitting when she fell pregnant. Neighbour Zatoon Ali, 43, said: “It’s very shocking and disturbing. I saw the police outside after it happened. The forensics people seemed to be focusing on the hallway area.”
Another neighbour, dad-of-three Jubran Ashraf, 30, said he knew the couple well and even visited Katarzyna in hospital after she gave birth.
He said: “The baby was absolutely beautiful – really, really gorgeous. They seemed like really nice people. I’m really shocked about this.”
