I work for Lagos policeman, says suspected robber

A 21-year-old suspected robber, Akeem Popoola, says a police inspector attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, uses him to swindle unsuspecting victims.

He said he had worked for the policeman, identified as Inspector Festus, aka Ijaya, for about four months before he was arrested.

He told Stated that apart from burglary, he used to collect phones from the inspector and he would later sell them.The carpenter, who is currently in custody at the Agbado divison, Ogun State, was arrested for robbery and burglary. A mattress and speakers of a sound system were reportedly recovered from him in the Giwa area of Agbado on April 6.

Yoruba’ll regret voting Buhari – Okunrounmu

A leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Senator Femi Okunrounmu, says the Yoruba will regret voting President Muhammadu Buhari.

Okunrounmu, who was the Chairman of the defunct Presidential Advisory Committee on National Conference, had supported former President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term and asked the Yoruba to vote for him so that he would be able to implement the report of the conference.

However, Buhari received over two million votes from the South-West in the last election, defeating Jonathan in the process.

ISIS kidnaps a Nigerian Man in Libya

The Islamic State has reportedly kidnapped a Nigerian in Libya.

The man’s passport and photo were posted online through the Twitter handle, -T- @TDecker75 on Friday night.

The passport posted on the Internet indicated that the man’s name is Ibrahim Adeola; his date of birth is May 24, 1979; he was born in Imo State.

Adeola’s passport was issued on January 21, 2012 and its expiration date is January 20, 2017.

He was said to have been kidnapped in Wilayat, an eastern part of Libya.

The Nigerian was reportedly abducted by the IS along with a Ghanaian, Kofi Sekyere and an Egyptian, Bekhit Ebeid.

Suicide bomber kills six inside Redeemed church

Punch: A suicide bomber on Sunday found his way into the City of David Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Potiskum, Yobe State, and detonated an explosive device which led to the death of five worshippers and the bomber.

One other person also sustained injuries.

A source said the dead bomber, suspected to be a member of the terrorist Islamic sect, Boko Haram, entered the church auditorium during Sunday service with the Improvised Explosive Device strapped to his body.

The source said the bomber headed for the altar as soon as he entered the church.

“Before he (the suicide bomber) could be stopped, he has detonated the bomb strapped to him, which led to the death of six people; the suicide bomber, the pastor of the church, Dotun Okerinola; and four others,” the source reported on the phone.

Boko Haram kills 35 in Yobe, Borno villages

AT least, 35 persons were killed and scores injured when Boko Haram insurgents attacked Nannawaji village, in the Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State and Debiro, in the Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State on Tuesday.

In Yobe, a female suicide bomber detonated an Improvised Explosive Devices strapped on her at a market in Nannawaji.

No fewer than 15 persons were killed in the attack while 26 others sustained injuries, Yusuf Ibrahim, a resident of the village, told our correspondent on the phone.

Tears as Buhari, wife meet Chibok girls’ mothers

Tears flowed freely on Friday as President Muhammadu Buhari; his wife, Aisha; and the wife of the Vice President, Dolapo Osinbajo, met with two women whose daughters are among the over 200 missing Chibok girls.

The emotional-laden encounter took place inside the Defence House, Abuja, where Buhari currently operates from.

Mrs. Osinbajo had earlier led the two women to a meeting with Hajia Buhari.

The President’s wife later led them into another round of meeting with Buhari.

By the time they emerged from the meeting and posed for photographs, the two women again broke down in tears while Mrs. Buhari held them tightly.

Mrs. Osinbajo also joined in the weeping.

EFCC arraigns 14 foreigners for smuggling fuel

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday charged 14 nationals of Britain, Russia, Ukraine and Japan with illegally trading and storing petroleum products.

The anti-graft agency arraigned the accused in a Lagos High Court for conspiring to store 4,500 tonnes of petroleum products in three vessels in February without authorisation.

It was not immediately clear if the products were to be taken out of Nigeria and if so, to which country they were headed.

Buhari to Reopen $182m Halliburton Bribery Case, 3 Ex-Presidents May be Jailed

This follows requests from the United States government who says unless those involved were prosecuted, part of the bribe money, about $140 million, recovered and still in the US, would not be repatriated to Nigeria.

The American government’s report on the Halliburton bribery scandal had indicted three former Nigerian leaders, a former number two citizen, a minister, intelligence chiefs and corporate giants in the list of bribery beneficiaries.

Jeffry Tesler, who was the go-between in the payment of the bribes paid to secure the contract for the final phase of the multibillion naira National Liquefied Natural Gas project was sentenced to 21 months in prison and forfeited $148.964 million from his Swiss accounts to the United States government.

Senate passes anti-rape bill, 45 others in 10 minutes

Punch: THE 7th Senate, on the eve of its lifespan on Wednesday, passed 46 bills, among them the Sexual Offences Bill, which has been pending in the upper federal legislative chamber since 2013.

Wednesday’s session at the Senate became rowdy as senators hurriedly said ‘ayes’ to the 46 bills which will be transmitted to President Muhammadu Buhari for his assent.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Senator Ita Enang, who introduced the bills said they had all been recently passed by the House of Representatives and sent to the Senate for concurrence.

Enang said the Senate had expended much resource on the processing of the bills and that they were needed to be passed before the 7th Senate is dissolved.
