403,528 applied for teachers’ job in 36 hours – Presidency



The Presidency on Monday said 403,528 persons had so far successfully applied for jobs on the Federal Government’s newly-launched job portal since it opened for applicants on Sunday.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice-President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Monday.

Akande quoted the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation, Mr. Afolabi Imoukhede, as saying the government was impressed with the response.

EFCC seizes Diezani’s N3.58bn Abuja home




The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has seized a mansion worth N3.58bn ($18m at the official exchange rate of N199 to a dollar) in the Asokoro area of Abuja allegedly belonging to the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, said this during an interview with Al-Jazeera, a Qatar-based news network.

Magu, in the interview, monitored by our correspondent on Monday, noted that the items in the house included jewellery, furniture and a bulletproof gym worth about $2m.

President Buhari may extend 10-day trip


An online medium, Sahara Reporters, on Monday evening reported that President Muhammadu Buhari might extend his  10-day trip to London, where he had gone to treat an ear infection.

According to the report, Buhari needs to undergo treatment for “a terrible cough that has persisted longer than the ear infection.”

The President had in the last few weeks cancelled official visits to Lagos and Rivers states, where he was represented by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

Skye Bank sacks 175 workers



The recent trend of retrenchment of workers in the financial services sector on Monday extended to Skye Bank Plc, which sent 175 of its employees into the labour market.

The bank confirmed the development in a statement through which it explained that the affected workers failed the year 2015 appraisal exercise.


The statement explained that a combination of factors was taken into consideration in the annual exercise, which ranged from low productivity to disciplinary issues, adding that the affected employees were duly exited in line with the bank’s staff exit policy.

UNILAG students drown in beach during friend’s birthday

Tragedy struck on Sunday as two postgraduate students of the University of Lagos drowned in the Elegushi Beach during the celebration of their friend’s birthday.
It was learnt that the deceased – Adesola Ogunmefun and Funmi Odusina – graduated from the Covenant University and were on the verge of bagging Master’s Degrees in International Law and Diplomacy from UNILAG.

This is the eleventh time the German Chancellor has been given the number-one spot by the U.S. magazine which rates the Scottish First Minister and SNP leader as the UK's second highest-ranked female behind the Queen. 
Ms Sturgeon, who is the first female to hold the role of First Minister, enters at number 50 on the global list, which includes 51 women from the United States but just six from the UK.

It’s shameful that Buhari could run from militants: Fayose

































Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, has alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari aborted his trip to the oil-rich Ogoni land in Rivers state, as a result of the assassination threat from the Niger Delta Avengers.

A militant had told one of the hosts of UK-based Radio Biafra that Buhari “should sign his death warrant” before his visit to Ogoni, and the president ended up delegating Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo to the landmark flag-off of the clean-up of Ogoni.

Reacting, Fayose advised Nigerians to seek help elsewhere, because Buhari had “surrendered to the superior powers of the militants”.

“For people to believe whatever they saw on the Gulder Ultimate Search means kudos to me. Everything you saw on show was shot within six days. We were told to bring in our A-game on the show to make it spicy. You will notice that after Muma Gee and I left the show, the rating nose-dived,” she said

The daughter of icon Muhammad Ali has taken to social media to share with the world how he was a fighter up until the very end.
The boxing legend died on Friday at age 74 in a Phoenix-area hospital at 9.10pm from septic shock' due to unspecified natural causes,' family spokesman Bob Gunnell announced on Saturday during an afternoon press conference.
Gunnell revealed that Ali actually was hospitalized since Monday suffering from respiratory issues, as he battled Parkinson's disease for 32 years.
